Range Conducting Officer Course 2015

Due to a shortage of RCO's in the Nottinghamshire area and to help promote inter-club shooting in the future, Nottinghamshire Rifle Association organised a two day RCO course held at the NADVAS range at Ravenshead.

Eight members attended the course from four different clubs:– Brian Jeffrey and Mark Poole from Awsworth Kimberley & District RC, Paul and Ross Smith from East Bridgford RC, Nigel Scott and Dave Woodward from Langar RC and Dave Talbot and the other Dave Woodward from Royal Ordnance Nottingham R&PC.

The course instructor was John Spence, who came all the way from the Manchester area. The first day of the course took place on Saturday 18th April and most of the day was spent completing all the theory of being an RCO, and homework was set.

Following a week of homework going backwards and forwards over the internet to John, the 2nd day took place on Sunday 26th April. The day started with the dreaded exam, followed by practical assessments on the 50 yd range. I am pleased to report that all eight delegates completed and passed the course. John's debrief mentioned that it was the "politest course" he had ever run due to all the pleases and thank you's bandied around during the assessments.

Many thanks go to John Spence for his expert tuition, and Jim and Phil at NADVAS for their support over the two weeks.
