County Smallbore Teams

The County Smallbore Team takes part in the National Smallbore Rifle Association's inter-county postal leagues which run through the winter season. There are three leagues for County 'A' teams, County Reserves teams and County Ladies teams which are split into several divisions. Nottinghamshire fields an 'A' team of 20 shooters and a Reserves team of 10.

Nottinghamshire also competes in the annual Mercia Match between the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire which is held in mid-June, rotating between county ranges.

There are also two County competitions held during the year. The Robin Hood Shoot takes place in April and the County Open Championship in October. Further details can be viewed from the links on the left.

If you are interested in taking part and qualify for Nottinghamshire, being resident in the county, then please contact us.

County Fullbore Teams

The County Fullbore Team programme runs through the summer season from April to October with all national County Team shoots being at Bisley and Nottinghamshire competitions at Beckingham and Bisley. The events are listed on the Shooting Calendar.

Several team shoots are included in the National Rifle Association (NRA) Imperial Meeting at Bisley in July and teams for those are generally selected from Nottinghamshire competitors at the Imperial Meeting. For further details of this major international event, please see the NRA website. There are also several meetings run by other counties and clubs at Bisley during the year which are open to individual entries from Nottinghamshire shooters. The more popular ones are listed on the Shooting Calendar.

There are a number of Nottinghamshire competitions held during the season: The Loverseed Johnson Cup, the Case Cup and the Nottinghamshire Open Championship. These are fullbore target rifle competitions. There is also the Gresham Shield Match for Nottinghamshire Club teams using fullbore vintage military rifles. Dates are included in the Shooting Calendar.

If you are interested in taking part and qualify for Nottinghamshire then please contact us.

County Trophies and Badges

The winners in the County Smallbore and Fullbore competitions are presented at the meetings with trophies or prizes on which their achievements are recorded. Some of the trophies were first presented a hundred years ago and are engraved with the names of the winners down the years.

Individuals who have represented the County at Smallbore, Fullbore or both are awarded County Badges. A points system is used to allow shooters to qualify for the badges through either or both disciplines. Full details can be found from the County Badges page.
