Shooting Match at Radcliffe-on-Trent

Despite the continuing lack of a range of their own, the volunteers were holding competitive shooting matches on local ranges, the meeting at Radcliffe–on–Trent in September 1893 being an example.

Once again the reporter refers to the lack of practice and the hope that a range will be found in the new year.

A search for any report of the usual Annual Volunteers Match, which would have been the 33rd such, has not been successful and it seems as though it was not held.

SHOOTING MATCH AT RADCLIFFE-ON-TRENT.

A most enjoyable match took place on Saturday at the Radcliffe butts between teams of C Company (Captain C. H. Seely's) R.H.R., and Thorneywood Chase (Major Milward's) Company 4th Notts. R.V., the Robin Hoods proving the victors by 22 points. The conditions were seven shots each at 200 and 500 yards, Bisley targets and scoring. The shooting was only moderately high, a tricky "fishtail" wind from the rear making bull's eyes most difficult to obtain at the longer distance. It is to be hoped that before the next shooting season commences a range will be provided for the Robin Hoods, as in this match the majority of the competitors were firing under Bisley rules for the first time this year, and consequently felt the want of practice very greatly. The scores are appended :—
