The 1893 Annual Volunteer Match held at Grantham

With the Nottingham town butts closed, the 1893 annual prize meeting had to be held at Grantham range. No report of the match could be found in the Nottinghamshire papers. This report comes from The Volunteer Record and Shooting News of July 22nd, 1893. It does not include any indication as to the weather conditions on the day.

The mention of two bronze medals of the N.R.A. is unusual. Normally there would have been two medals on offer, a silver medal from the Nottinghamshire Rifle Association for the top scoring member, and a bronze medal awarded by the National Rifle Association for the top score of the day, the latter also entitling the winner to an entry to the Prince of Wales' Prize at Bisley.
